The concept of technology management is quite broad, since it covers not only R&D but also the management of product and process technologies. Viewed from that perspective, the management of technology is actually the practice of integrating technology strategy with business strategy in the company.

Tahun 2005, Stephen R. Covey menambah karakter ke delapan sebagai dimensi baru dalam mewujudkan pemahaman mengenai pribadi yang utuh. Karakter kedelapan memberi pola pikir dan perangkat keahlian untuk secara terus menerus menggali potensi yang ada di dalam diri manusia melalui semua peran dalam 4 Peran Kepemimpinan :
Pertama, Panutan atau menyajikan keteladanan (individu, tim). Menjadi panutan mengilhami timbulnya kepercayaan tanpa memintanya. Jika orang hidup dengan prinsip-prinsip yang diwujudkan dalam karakter ke-8, kepercayaan, pengikat kehidupan ini, akan tumbuh dengan subur. Kepercayaan akan muncul kalau kita memang layak dipercaya. Secara singkat, mejadi panutan menghasilkan kewibawaan moral pribadi.
Kedua, Perintis. Merintis jalan menciptakan keteraturan tanpa perlu memaksakannya. Hal ini berarti bahwa jika orang mengaitkan identitas mereka dan terlibat dalam pembuata keputusan-keputusan strategis, khususnya mengenai nilai-nilai yang dipegang serta tujuan-tujuan prioritas tertinggi, mereka akan mengalami keterkaitan emosional. Manajemen dan motivasi merupakan urusan di dalam diri. Orang tidak perlu lagi diatur-atur dan dimotivasi dari luar. Merintis jalan menghasilkan kewibawaan moral visioner.
Ketiga, Penyelaras. Menyelaraskan struktur, sistem, dan proses merupakan perwujudan dari upaya untuk memupuk organisasi dan semangat kepercayaan, visi, dan pemberdayaan. Menyeleraskan menghasilkan kewibawaan moral yang dilembagakan.
Keempat, Pemberdaya. Memberdayakan adalah buah dari ketiga peran yang lain – menjadi panutan, merintis jalan, dan menyelaraskan. Peran ini membebaskan potensi manusia tanpa memerlukan motivasi eksternal. Memberdayakan akan menghasilkan kewibawaan moral budaya.
